Jun 24, 2025

A 59-year-old Sioux Falls man died June 17, in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 29, according to a South Dakota State News report.

The fatal collision occurred at 11:34 p.m. near mile-marker 79, in a construction zone on the northbound side of the interstate. According to preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, a 2008 Lexus IS250 and a 2024 Freightliner Cascadia semi with double trailers were both traveling north in adjacent lanes when the crash happened.

The report states that the semi’s trailer wheels hit a concrete barrier, causing the second trailer to become airborne. It tipped over and landed on the Lexus, sending both vehicles into the east ditch.

The Lexus driver died at the scene and was wearing a seatbelt. The semi driver, a 57-year-old man from Council Bluffs, Iowa, was uninjured.

Authorities have not yet released the names of those involved, pending family notification. The crash remains under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol.
